1987 MCDONALD'S
ALL-AMERICAN
SEAN WITH THE WIZARD OF WESTWOOD, JOHN R. WOODEN
In 1984 Sean entered Fairfax High School in Los Angeles, California as a sophomore after participating in the prestigious Nike All-American camp at Princeton University. Nike camp invites the top 100 high school players in the country. Sean was the youngest player ever invited at 14 years old. Camp directors were basketball shoe company guru Sonny Vaccaro and current Memphis Grizzlies General Manager Chris Wallace. Sean played well enough that Sonny and Chris ranked him amongst the best players in the country. The camp gave Sean all the confidence in the world as he headed back to Los Angeles to start his high school career.
1987 CALIFORNIA STATE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Winning the city championship and player of the year only as a tenth grader! This launched the start of a college recruitment frenzy that would later become one of the most storied recruiting wars in history. By Sean's senior year, his team was ranked number 2 in the nation by every high school magazine and publication, and so was he. He finished his senior year winning the John R. Wooden award as the top schoolboy and the Los Angeles city championship, eventually losing in the semi-finals of the state tournament. Fairfax high school retired Sean's number 24 jersey in 1991 and hung it in the rafters. This was the first sports jersey to ever be retired in the school's history.
After his senior season Sean was selected to the Mcdonalds High School All-American team amongst the nations best. Just a day before the Mcdonalds game he announced he would attend the University of Michigan in the fall.
